CATCH MOLECULAR MANIA!!!!!!!
The Discovery center for Science and Technology offers and exciting new learning
experience for middle and advanced elementary school students. The
program gives kids an edge in understanding the basics of the molecular
world. Students will mix chemicals, build models, isolate DNA and understand
the foundations of DNA forensics as they analyze the puzzle pieces
of the universe and of life. Molecular Mania is a highly visual, interactive
experience for kids. Small classes (average 12 students) provide individual
attention and hands on learning
The Molecular
Mania program focuses on helping young students understand the molecules
that compose our world. This knowledge of the building blocks of the physical
and biological universe will help them establish a solid foundation for the
study of science in the future. These classes will emphasize concepts and
visualizations of important scientific processes. The one-hour once-a-week
classes consist of equal parts lecture, videos, animations, and hands on
activities.
Classes will be held at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts across from the
Oaks Mall. Classes will be held on Monday and Tuesday between 2:30-5:30
PM. Classes will be age appropriate. Each class is an hour per week
for ten weeks, starting Monday September 17. There will be no classes
on Nov 12, or during Thanksgiving week
Instructor
These classes are conducted by Steven K. Yoshinaga, Ph.D. in Molecular Biology.
Dr. Steve was a research scientist at AMGEN for ten years where he led
a successful project team in the development of an immune cell modulator.
He has been teaching molecular science to young students for the past four
years.
