A new science center is coming...see what we've got planned.
With its location on the site adjacent to the popular Thousand Oaks Civic
Arts Plaza, the 58,000 square foot facility will be the centerpiece of
a new community-gathering place. This location will be easily accessible
to residents of the Ventura, Santa Barbara and western Los Angeles counties.
Along with the nearby Hogan Family Foundation Gardens of the World, the
Discovery Center will be part of a very significant cultural, entertainment
and educational experience center for the region. It will be one of the
finest and most exciting cultural and tourist attractions between the Getty
Museum and the Monterey Aquarium.
The facility will include a 270 seat large-screen theater/auditorium and an outdoor
science park. The exhibit program, now in development, is designed to lead
visitors to not only learn new information, but to think about things they
may already know in new ways. Permanent exhibit themes include "Soup-up"
your Scientist Skills, How Information Travels, Intersections
and Connections,
How Do We Know Stuff?, and Science
City, a young children's discovery
area.
The most unique feature of the building will be the “Verizon Sci-Tech
Community Clubhouse.” Kids will create on-going science projects
in labs with scientists from the technology corporations in the neighborhood.
The center will also include traveling exhibits, a professional development center
for teachers, workshops, laboratories, classrooms, meeting space with catering facilities,
offices and support functions.
