Vision
The mission of the Discovery Center for Science and Technology
is to create excitement about learning science in an environment that promotes
curiosity, exploration, discovery and creativity. The Discovery Center is a place
to play with science, to feel confident about one's ability to think scientifically,
to foster natural curiosity, and to experience our universe in new and exciting ways.
For 12 years, we have proudly offered the highly successful
Museum Without Walls program, serving students in Ventura,
Santa Barbara and western LA counties. The highly acclaimed
outreach program has inspired thousands of students to explore
the world around them. Plans are now underway to build a 58,000
square foot facility at a site adjacent to the Civics Arts Plaza in Thousand
Oaks that will become our center for science discovery and exploration.
Situated in the 101 Technology Corridor, which
stretches from UCLA, the California Institute of Technology,
and Jet Propulsion Laboratory on the eastern side, to the
University of California Santa Barbara on the western side,
the Discovery Center will draw upon the resources and expertise
of leading scientists and educators in the region. Our exhibit galleries
with be organized around these themes: "Soup-up"
your Scientist Skills, How Information Travels, Intersections
and Connections, How Do We Know Stuff?, and Science
City, a young children's discovery area.
Because Americas new economy will rely on a work force
proficient in science and technology, the Discovery Center
will offer programs and events to excite and engage children
in learning and encouraging their sense of discovery and exploration
in the world around them. Teachers will find the Discovery
Center a resource for educational enrichment and continuing
education.
We need your help
to make this vision a reality. To find out more about the
